iSchool for the Future was pleased to have recruited “Ms. Anu” Gupta to teach the Super Science Magic Camp. Anu is a scientist with a strong background in biodiversity conservation and water quality.
Originally from Northern Virginia, Anu moved to Oregon in the late 1990s to earn a Master’s Degree. There she specialized in wetland restoration and worked with communities on endangered salmon issues. In 2001 Anu joined the US Peace Corps and worked on the tropical island of Palau in the Micronesia region of the Western Pacific. She ended up spending over a decade in the Pacific. Much of her time was spent developing biodiversity surveys and monitoring protocols, conducting science outreach to youth and adults, and working with communities to set aside parks and protect species.
Anu also spent three years in Hawaii pursuing a second graduate degree. During that time she was awarded a prestigious fellowship from the National Science Foundation to test and implement hands-on science in public schools. She spent two years using cutting edge educational methods to bring meaningful science experiences to schools. Since moving back to the area Anu has started an environmental consulting company, D&D Biodiversity Consulting.
“I’m so happy to be able to combine my passion for science with an integrated emphasis on empathy for each other and the earth,” said Anu. iSchool is excited to announce that Ms. Anu will also be teaching the Innovation Lab!
